Westlakes, Kampar...

Now I'm writing this from Kampar. There's a computer lab just opposite my house. So now the Internet isn't very far away from me.

How's life in Kampar?
Hmmm.. Not bad although it can get boring at times. That should be good for me to encourage me to concentrate on my studies. My room is kinda small since I'm sharing it with my brother but it's just enough for me to stay.

Ok that's about it from me. Next I'll upload some quirky photos I took of UTAR and the people there! =)

[41] Jupiter Symphony.

Guys I'm leaving in a little more than 24 hours from now. This does not only goes out to my friends but to my readers here as well. Whoever you are, I would like to thank you for reading and visiting. I'm not closing this blog down. Since I'm moving to Kampar, I can't promise you that I'll be updating my blog frequently. It might be days, weeks or even months. I cannot assure you that.

As for my friends, I thank you for supporting me whenever I was down and putting up with me at times. I'm very sure that life will continue on as usual for you guys here in Penang. It wouldn't change that much or it wouldn't change at all. I'll still see you guys around, or at least through the Internet if I can get access to it. I'll still come back once in a while. Or maybe you guys can have another trip to Gua Tempurung since it's nearby. Then I shall be your tour guide and guide you to the curry chicken bun! Don't be sad about me leaving. Stop the tearing already, if there is any. I'm not gone forever! The least you can do is smile. That will carry some weight off my guilt of leaving.

Uni (University) life.. Some say it's the best part of one's life while some can't wait for it to finish. Whatever it is, I'm sure that it will be a new chapter of my life. A new chapter for me, a new chapter in UTAR, Kampar, Perak. Wish me luck.

Seems like yesterday we used to rock the show
I lace the track you lock the flow
So far from hanging on the block of dough
Notorious they got to know that
Life ain't always what it seem to be
Words can't express what you mean to me
Even though you're gone
We still a team
Through your family I'll fulfill your dreams

In the future can't wait to see
If you'll open up the gates for me
Remenice sometime
The night they took my friend
Try to black it out but it plays again
When it's weird feelin' it's really hard to conceal
Can't imagine all the pain I feel
Give everything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every time I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

It's kind of hard wit' you not around
Know you in heaven smilin' down
Watchin' us while we pray for you
Everyday we pray for you
Till the day we meet again
In my heart is where I'll keep you friend
Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts big I just can't define
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Bust in the 6
Shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me taking flicks
Making hits stages they receive you on
Still can't believe you're gone
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every time I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

Somebody tell me why
One day morning
When this life is over
I know
I'll see your face

Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every night I pray
Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every time I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every time I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Every time I pray
I'll be missing you

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you...

David and the David!

I'm not a big fan of the American Idol series but in some weird ways I'm waiting for the finale of the current season. I just can't wait to see which David will sing his way to the crowd's and the judges' hearts. In the finale, David A (David Archuleta) will be going head to head with David C (David Cook). Ladies you can start screaming now. Both of them have good looks with different but phenomenal vocal talents. David A is more of a ballad person while David C is the resident rocker of American Idol now.

David Cook on the left and David Archuleta on the right.

I was blown away by Cook's performance last week. He did Aerosmith's 'I don't wanna close my eyes'. A great song already from the movie Armageddon. I prefer Cook's version over Aerosmith's. Here's a video of his performance.

I can't decide which side I'm on. Cook or Archuleta. Both of them are equally good in their own genre. I have a feeling that Archuleta will bag the prize. Btw, what happened to Malaysian Idol?

Time is running out..

Time for me in Penang that is. I'll be leaving soon to Kampar. I had a shock this morning when my dad announced that he'll be sending me and my brother down to Kampar tomorrow. It was so sudden. I protested that I'll be bored to my skull till Thursday (The actual registration day). He answered me that he had no other time available to send both of us down. I was doomed to a few days of boredom.. Or so I thought.

Lady Luck was on my side when he came out and told me that we'll be going on Thursday morning instead of the initial plan. I let out a sigh of relief. A few more days in Penang is all I have left. No no don't start crying yet, I'll be coming back soon. How soon will soon be? I cannot promise you that. It might be weeks, months but definitely not years.

For those who's still in the dark on why I'm moving to Kampar (Only me and my brother), let me update you. I'll be going down Kampar to continue my studies. A new chapter in my life. In UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman or more fondly known as Universiti Tak Akan Rugi). Almost all preparations are done. Bags are yet to be packed. Goodbyes are yet to be said.

Carbon fiber to the rescue?

James May (Of Top Gear fame) was ranting about the hype surrounding carbon fiber (CF) in Top Gear Malaysia magazine a few months back. He pointed out that it was useless having those extra few kilograms shaved off. According to his article, it's unnecessary to have CF in your car if it's not a track car.

Yes, yes, yes, yes I know, I know, I know : It make sense for racing car tubs, aeroplane wings, the shafts of golf clubs and fishing rods. But I'm talking here about CF as an adornment, which you will find in your car and other inappropriate places. I'm driven to this by the discovery that the CF roof of the new BMW M3 is standard and not painted, so everyone can see it. Why?

However, no one is driving around with a cubic metre of steel in the car and lamenting its devastating impact on handling. Obviously, a CF roof will lower the centre of gravity a bit, but so will having a haircut or removing the loose change from your pocket. It doesn't matter but does make you look a bit of a berk.

-James May
Top Gear Malaysia magazine,
Issue 10, page 40

Come on James, those extra kilogrammes saved would go well in helping you get a better fuel economy. Lighter car = less power needed to propel to car forward = better fuel economy.

"I'm reminded of the early Eighties elevation of the word 'turbo' to denote excellence. The Saab Turbo was a cool car, so turbos were. Turbo vacuum cleaners. Turbo sunglasses."
-James May

Recently, (Yea we're still on the CF craze, and this is to make you eat your words James) a group of Japanese companies which hold a 70% share in the global CF market wants to diversify its usage and apply it to our daily drives.

You only get CF in your stock vehicle only if the car is worth more than RM 500,000. Yes that's how exclusive it is. Above that price, you would get goodies like CF roof, CF rear spoiler/diffuser, CF hood, CF trunk and so on. Well, if you have the cash, go beyond the RM 1,000,000 border and you'll be rewarded with almost a full CF car.

Carbon Fiber : 1,800kg per cubic metre
Mild steels : 7,800kg per cubic metre
Aluminium Alloy : 2,600kg per cubic metre

Why is it so expensive? No not the car, CF. Paul stated that it was expensive because of its cost of materials, cost of manufacturing and time needed for manufacturing. A lot of energy would be required (Yes scream now you friggin environmentalists) and it would take hours to mould it into shape. It seems that producing CF parts will incur a high level of wastage as well. Another one for you, tree-huggers.

So why is this group trying to mass produce CF cars since it is so costly? The only reason would be rising fuel prices. In a not too distant future, fuel efficient vehicles will be the best selling product for car manufacturers. So why not? Teijin - one of the companies dealing with CF has already sped up the whole process into just 10 minutes. 10 minutes per part? Still nothing compared with stamping sheet metal in seconds.

A few years down the road and we might find CF Kancils and Sagas running around here. Achieving 20km per litre might be a dream come true by then. Till then, dream on...

Curry Chicken Bun!

Any of you out there who haven't tried the Kampar curry chicken bun? You have to try it! It's really good. I had it with my family when I went down to Kampar recently to settle my accomodation. It's worth every penny you are paying for it. Don't get me wrong, it's not expensive. It's just rightly priced. It's a jumbo looking bun with honey or some sweet tasting syrup whisked on top of it. The bun itself is packed with curry chicken. You have to eat the bun together with the curry! I tell you it's really that good!

I had it in Kam Ling Restaurant, Old Kampar Town. Other than the bun, they have other yummies too!

To Muslims, I don't think its Halal although it's chicken. I did not see the Halal logo anywhere in the restaurant. Sorry.

Full Metal Panic!

Just by the name alone, images of giant robots doing battle pops up in your mind. Well, part of that is true. This anime is not about fighting robots alone. It's about high school life in Japan as well. A n independent military organisation by the name of Mithril sent 3 of their members to guard an ordinary high school girl (Yeah.. Ordinary by all means but still a babe.. Can't really say if she's really that ordinary, I've only watch the first three episodes of the first season.). Oh and her name is Kaname. Sent to guard her was 3 funny members of Mithril. One girl and two guys.

Kaname Chidori

Mithril

Sousuke Sagara - The guy lead, he's a bit emotionless in the beginning and does all the stupidest stuff, plus he's over-sensitive, no not the emotional ones but more of towards terrorist attacks, yea you may call him paranoid but he is suppose to protect Kaname.

Kurz Weber - The typical playboy and drinker guy. A sergeant who drinks when he's on duty..

Melissa Mao - Hmm.. I think she's the highest ranking officer among all three. A tough chick. Nothing much is revealed about her yet.

Ah I've forgotten who are they suppose to protect the Kaname from. Somehow the Russian KGB (An espionage association in Russia with links to the Kremlin) is interested in kidnapping her. They are working on a project called Whisper. Hmmm.. What could it be? I speculate it has something to do with DNA enhancement.. Or maybe some super-soldier project. Gonna continue watching it in a few moments after this post.

Off with their heads!

You walk through the entrance, the gate staff tears a part off your ticket and inform you where your cinema hall is. You approach the food counter and order a box of popcorn and two Cokes. One for you and another one for your partner. Then you and your partner proceed to your cinema hall. As you walked into the hall, you take a couple of minutes to look for your seat. A few moments later, the whole hall turned dark. Image began appearing on the huge silver screen in front of you. Trailers of upcoming movies were shown. A few of them grab your interest while others look plain dumb. After watching trailers, your movie began. First you see the title of the movie. Let's take Ironman for example. Below those humongous letters, you see another smaller title. It looks different and awkward at times. It's written in some foreign language that doesn't make sense. Sub-titles! That's what I'm talking about. Can you imagine what was written below the main title Ironman? It was Orang Besi. I was like WTF? Can you just leave the title alone? Are we so illiterate until the whole movie has to be sub-titled? Even the main title of the movie is not spared!

Not only Ironman was victimised. Other big budget movies were wrecked with funny sounding sub-title and worse, wrong translation! It makes me wonder how our very own Film Censor Board (Lembaga Penapisan Filem) are qualified to censor films. They can't even translate some simple sentences. I'm very very disappointed.. Malaysia Boleh huh? Any foreigners who can read Bahasa Malaysia would see us as another undeveloped country (rather than a developing one). Suddenly tok moh's campaign against 'tidak apa' attitude appeared in my mind. Yes this is one example of the tidak apa attitude.

Hello Halo!

There has been a lot of speculation on the Halo movie. Some say it has been shelved. Some say it's in progress with Peter Jackson at its helm. I'm not sure what the real deal is here. But I've found quite a believable teaser of the upcoming Halo live action movie.

I am Ironman!

Tony Stark. Genius. Playboy millionaire. Prophet of death. Modern day Learnado da Vinci. He goes by many names and he's about to add one more to his list.

This flamboyant CEO of Stark Industries had his eyes opened after a near fatal accident happened to him while he was on a tour promoting his latest weapon system (The Jericho) in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan. Mortally wounded by weapons from his own company, he was saved by a scrawny looking scientist which planted an electromagnet in his chest to avoid the shrapnel from entering his heart and killing him. (I wonder how.. Imagine a hole as big as your fist on your chest and there's an electromagnet there..). Together with the scrawny scientist, he was held in an underground cell and forced to build the Jericho by rebels hiding in mountain caves. He had only a basic lab and parts scavenged from other weapons to build the Jericho. Rebels being rebels, Tony build something else instead. Not the Jericho missile system but an armour suit. Quite a crude one you may say but do pardon him as it was just his first attempt at building one and he only had ancient tools and scrap parts to work with. It resembles those from the age of King Arthur, but it did achieve what it was built for, KICK TERRORIST BUTT! It did more than that, it almost decimated the whole encampment. It was hilarious to see those extremist running in fear and shooting aimlessly at him.

Tony was a different man when he came back to the States. He immediately announced that Stark Industries would stop making weapons from that moment onwards. His partner and mentor, Obadiah obviously wasn't happy and did not agree with his rather brash action. He filed an injunction against Tony and locking him out of his own company. He claimed that Tony was still recovering from trauma after the kidnapping. After being disabled from his company, Tony continued developing and upgrading his armour suit..

How will it all end? Will we see the terrorist again? What are Obadiah's intentions? What is Tony up to? Catch Ironman at your local cinemas to find out!

Not bad of a movie. Watched it with ma bb recently. The cinema in both Gurney and Queensbay Mall was full on the opening day and the day after. Even when I went it was packed! Personally I would give it a 3.5/5. Tony Starks has a R8 in his collection of cars. The R8 was featured a few times too! Fuh! Best best!!
