10,000 Bulu Caveman

Took a trip back in history with Benjamin, Jessica and Sim (Turnip.. lol) yesterday. All the way back to the time where Gods, spirits, dinosaurs, mammoths and humans coexist together, not in harmony though.

The Yaghal people live in a mountainous and snowy region. Their only source of food is the mammoths (called manak in the movie). The best part of it all was they spoke English! The story unfolds with a prophecy as the mammoths were coming later and later in time. The seer of the village consulted their ancestor spirits and was told that a blue eyed child would be the key to their village's survival. They found the blue eyed child after that in a village which was razed. She was brought back to the Yaghal village and was raised as one of their own. She was named Evolet (meaning key to life or something similar). Then a little boy named D'leh from the village took interest in her. For a caveman, he was quite good at romance too. He told her that she will always be in his heart. Never knew a caveman boy can be such a romeo.

Apparently they village wasn't in dire straits yet as they had enough food to last them a few years. D'leh gained lots of muscle here and there and boy, Evolet turned out pretty! Owh yea! They had eye liner too back in those days! So don't you go boasting bout your Maybelline eyeliner. Then the village seer had another vision. Visions of black four legged demons tearing through their village just after their last hunt. However a hero was also seen arising from their village. Baku, D'leh's friend and the movie's comic relief was introduced when both him and D'leh kept watch for the mammoths. Yes the mammoth still came, just a lil later. The one who lands the death blow to the mammoth by piercing it's heart will be the next head hunter and shall have Evolet as his mate. D'leh who fell in love with Evolet wanted her to be his and so he was determined to be the one to kill the mammoth. They went out on the hunt as a group, scaring the mammoths and trapping just one of it. Eventually, D'leh accidentally became the one and only one who killed it and was given the White Spear (Mark of the head hunter) and Evolet. He was overjoyed but only for a moment. He knew he had not killed the mammoth, it was just accidental. He started to doubt himself. That night they celebrated. The previous head hunter, Tic Tic did not join them. D'leh went over and Tic Tic told him that it was not the village's way to lie to be a head hunter. D'leh reluctantly gave up the White Spear and Evolet.

After the celebrations, came the black four legged demons. Apparently they are men on horses. They raided the village and took Evolet and almost all the hunters away. Baku's mother was an unnecessary sacrifice. The only hunters that were left was D'leh, Ka'Ren (D'leh's rival) and Tic Tic. They were never caught because Tic Tic's dwelling was a distance away from the camp and D'leh slept with him that night.

The next day the three of them, D'leh, Ka'Ren and Tic Tic set off on a journey to rescue their people. They followed the horsemen's trail. After travelling through different terrains and climates, they met another group of prehistoric humans. They are some kind of African tribe. Their leader, Nakudu spoke their language because D'leh's father who left D'leh came through here and thought Nakudu their language. Nakudu told them that their village was also raided by the horsemen. They decided to form an army and attack the hormen's village. Different tribes from all over the desert were called over to form the army.

D'leh led the army to the horsemen's village. They then discovered that the hormen was from a civilised and a more complex society than theirs. Men that were taken from their villages were being brought here as slaves to build enormous pyramids. Yes they do look like Egyptians somehow. This civilisation was ruled by a figure which the horsemen considered as a God. Actually that fella wasn't really a divine being but rather a freak. You'll have to watch it yourselves to understand what I meant. He had this group of eunuch-like-servants catering to his every needs. They are one bunch of irritating cowards. The puzzling fact here is how come most of the people back then are only loincloth and spears cavemen while these guys here have already mastered masonry, metallurgy and horse taming. They are too far apart in the time gap to be meeting each other.

I'll be ending my summary here, you should watch the movie if you wanna know the rest. I'm not gonna spoil it for you. Frankly, the movie was a great movie but the ending was just too rushed and kinda cheesy. 10000BC had an ending which looks very similar to another historic movie.

One last thing, with their hair like that, I thought the Yaghal people were the forefathers of reggae and Bob Marley.
